I struck gold at the Farmers Market, I finally found Morel Mushrooms. If you can get your hands on these little funky guys I highly recommend trying them. They are a little steep in price but are definitely worth the hype. These mushrooms are earthy and deep with flavor. I was blown away.
I spent quite a lot of time researching online on how to properly clean and cook Morel Mushrooms. The last thing I wanted for myself (or for you) is to find a little bug in my pasta (BIGGEST FEAR).
Here’s some background info that I’ve uncovered
Morels are great in butter or deep fried
Morels can be found in nearly every state but more commonly found in the Midwest, Pacific North West, North east and Mid-South.
Peak foraging time is Spring where the air is cooler and ground is damp.
For cleaning: Add a healthy pinch of salt to hot water, allow Morels to soak for 5 minutes, rinse under cold water at least twice, strain and dry.
The salted water kills any living bug that could be hiding in the crevices and also removes any leftover dirt.
You can find morel mushrooms at some specialty stores, farmers markets or if you’re lucky you can forage them yourself!
